What makes it real

Most “8D audio” is a stereo file with a pan effect.

Whorl is different. Every layer is a separate source, spatialized live on your iPhone as it orbits your head — which is why you can change the speed mid-session, why head tracking works at all, and why each layer can circle at its own pace. Nothing is pre-baked.

Why it feels different
◌

True spatial audio

Every source orbits you on a real 3D path, spatialized live on your iPhone — not a flat stereo render.

☊

Head tracking

With AirPods, turn your head and the sound stays fixed in the room. The "how is it doing that" moment.

✣

Bilateral tapper

Soft haptic taps alternate left–right in sync with the orbit — calm your hands can feel.

☾

Four goals

De-stress, Focus, Sleep, and Overthinking — each tuned with its own motion, tone, and pace.

◔

Timers & Pomodoro

2 to 60 minute sessions, a 25·5 focus cycle with soft chimes, and a sleep timer that fades out slowly.

⤓

Works offline

Every soundscape lives on your device. Nothing streams, nothing buffers, nothing to load on a plane.

≈

Motion & comfort

Orbit, Sway, gentle Drift, or Still — at Gentle, Standard, or Deep intensity. If motion ever feels like too much, dial it down. Never paywalled.

◐

Private by design

No account, no ads, no analytics, nothing tracked. Your audio and your sessions stay on your device.

The basics

What is brain flossing?

“Brain flossing” is the popular name for listening to sound that moves around your head — usually called 8D audio or spatial audio. Instead of sitting still in your headphones, the sound travels: left, behind, right, and around again. Many people find the motion easy to follow and use it to settle a busy mind, wind down, or hold focus. It is a relaxation and focus practice, not a medical treatment.

How is Whorl different from 8D audio on YouTube?

Almost every “8D” track online is a finished stereo file with a panning effect printed into it — the motion is fixed forever. Whorl keeps each layer separate and moves them around you live on your iPhone. That is why you can change the orbit speed while it plays, why AirPods head tracking can hold the sound still as you turn, and why each layer can travel at its own pace.

Do I need headphones?

Yes — the effect is created between your ears, so speakers won’t reproduce it. Any headphones or earbuds work. AirPods (3rd generation, Pro, or Max) add head tracking on top.

What if the movement feels like too much?

Some people find fast spatial motion uncomfortable. Whorl ships four motion styles — Orbit, Sway, gentle Drift, and Still — at Gentle, Standard or Deep intensity, and every one of those controls is free. Start on Gentle with a 2-minute timer, and stop if it doesn’t feel good.
